Operational research developed as a multi-disciplinary approach to problem solving. The steel industry has contributed significantly both to the techniques and application of operational research.

This lecture focuses on:

Investment decisions for capacity augmentation,
Decisions on equipment specification for desired capacity output,
Reducing delays in the steelmaking shop,
Dispatch planning of finished steel,
Raw material linkage plan, and
Developing decision rules for limited availability of power.
