Description
Today, the construction industry is at the heart of the global sustainability challenge. Buildings and infrastructure account for nearly 40% of the world's energy-related carbon emissions. To meet the urgent need for greener solutions, we must rethink how we design, build, and reuse our structures. This is where steel plays a pivotal role.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
• Explain how BOS and EAF methods support steel’s sustainability in construction.
• Compare steel to other materials in terms of lifecycle emissions and environmental impact.
• Illustrate steel recycling and evaluate its impact on the circular economy in construction.
• Assess lifecycle benefits of steel using cradle-to-cradle and LCA concepts.
• Analyze how innovations like H-DRI and CCUS reduce steel’s environmental footprint.
