Description
Machinability is the ease and cost of achieving a production schedule for machined parts. A machine shop manager has to consistently produce machined components which are able to satisfy product property specifications and in-service performance requirements, at minimum cost. In this module the definition of machinability and free cutting steel will be developed. The factors affecting machinability, like manganese sulphide inclusions, will be discussed. Then, the properties that are affected will be introduced. Finally, the effects of sulphur on the properties of steel will be listed.
