Description

The engineering material used for developing any component product requires a strength higher than the low carbon free cutting steels. They are not suitable for all machining bar applications due to their relatively low strength. For that reason, the re-sulphurised steel was developed to improve strength but with the properties of free cutting steels. In this module the MnS inclusions effects on steels will be introduced. The control of these effects will be explained.
Then, the re-sulphurised steel to improve strength will be studied.
Finally, semi- and medium carbon free cutting steels will be analysed with their differences and advantages.

What you will learn

- Explain the inclusion effects of MnS on steels;
- List the characteristics of Re-Sulphurised steels;
- Distinguish between Semi- and Medium carbon free cutting steels.
