Description

In the last section we evaluated the properties due to the microstructure of free cutting steels with different carbon content. But other mechanical properties are important, for example, to crack initiation, the magnetism in the metal, or the type of thread that is recommended to be done. In this module the effect produced by a notch in medium carbon free cutting steels will be analysed and a recommendation of the type of thread that is preferable to be used will be done. Then, the crack initiation due high tensile in free cutting steel bars will be studied.
Finally, the retained magnetism will be explained.

What you will learn

- Explain the sensitivity of medium carbon steels to the notch;
- Detail crack initiation in free cutting steel bars;
- Describe Retained Magnetism.
