Description

To obtain the free cutting steel with the properties of machinability improved different kind of additions should be done.
The lead, bismuth, tellurium and selenium are the most usual additions to improve the machinability in free cutting steels. In this module the different additions that favour the improvement in steel machinability will be studied. First, the most common addition will be treated, the lead. Then, the bismuth additions will be evaluated.
Finally, the tellurium and selenium will be analysed.

What you will learn

- Explain the effects of adding lead to free cutting steels;
- Compare lead and bismuth additions to free cutting steels;
- Outline the characteristics of tellurium and selenium additions to free cutting steels.
