Description

Nitriding is one of the methods for hardening a steel surface. Another important method is Induction Hardening.
Induction Hardening is a type of heat treatment in which metal parts are heated by electromagnetic induction and then, quenched. This is used to improve surface layer properties such as fatigue resistance and hardness. In this module different steels used for nitriding and the hardness obtained with those steels will be analysed.
Then, the effect of tensile strength and temperature in the nitriding process will be evaluated. Finally, the induction/flame hardening process and the microstructures obtained in the section of the steel will be showed.

What you will learn

- Analyse the depth of nitriding hardness;
- Evaluate the effect of tensile strength and temperature in nitriding process;
- Explain the induction/flame hardening process and the microstructures obtained in the steel.
