Description
After Basic Oxygen Steelmaking (BOS), the liquid steel contains many other elements apart from carbon.
The microstructure of steel depends on the cooling rate of liquid steel. It is important to understand the mechanisms of phase transformation to know the type of steel you will obtain and the type of mechanical properties acquired. In this module how added alloys affect the mechanical properties of the final product will be explained.
Then, the different ways of microstructural transformation and the influence of those in the final steel product will be presented. The atomic movement will be calculated. Finally, the ferrite growth and the phase transformation will be defined.
What you will learn
- Explain the behaviour of iron alloying; outline the effect of different alloys on the properties of steel.
- Describe the mechanisms of Microstructural Steel, and how the Cooling Rate affects the final microstructure of steel;
- Calculate the Carbon Atom Diffusion;
- Explain Ferrite Growth and Phase Transformation.
