Description
Short description:
Explore hot strip and sheet rolling from slabs, covering width sizing, finishing, coiling, and post-treatment applications.
Long description:
This module examines the industrial process of hot rolling strips and sheets from slabs and thin slabs. It explores the mechanical and thermal transformations that occur during the rolling of flat products and details each phase of the hot strip mill process—from reheating and descaling through roughing, intermediate, and finishing rolling stages. Learners are introduced to slab width sizing, coiling, dimensional measurement systems, and post-treatment techniques such as skin-pass rolling, trimming, and inspection. The module also discusses the production of slit strip and cold-rolled products, as well as their downstream uses in welded tubes, roll-formed sections, and automotive components.
What you will learn
- Describe the process of transforming slabs and thin slabs into hot-rolled strips and sheets.
- Apply width sizing, roughing, and finishing techniques to achieve desired product dimensions.
- Evaluate coiling operations and their effect on surface integrity and internal stress.
- Recognize trimming, skin-pass, and inspection procedures used to finalize strip and sheet products.
- Classify final products made from hot-rolled flat products and their downstream applications.
