Description
The impact assessment phase of life cycle assessment takes the data generated in the inventory phase, which may be thousands of data points, and applies a methodology to assess potential environmental burdens.
The steps involved include classification and characterisation. The inventory analysis data is assigned to impact categories in classification while characterisation involves applying a chosen methodology to generate a common equivalence for each impact category.
After impact assessment, the thousands of inventory data points are reduced to several impact category results.
