Description
Short description:
Explore key maintenance policies and learn how to select the most appropriate approach for different industrial scenarios.
Long description:
Designed for technicians, maintenance planners, and industrial operations personnel, this module provides a detailed exploration of the main maintenance policies used to support equipment reliability and operational continuity. Learners will identify, compare, and evaluate breakdown maintenance, time- or usage-based maintenance, condition-based maintenance, and improvement-focused maintenance strategies through industrial examples, realistic scenarios, and applied decision-making activities. Through case studies and interactive exercises, participants will examine the advantages, limitations, operational requirements, and risks associated with each policy, including the impact on safety, production, cost, downtime, and resource planning. The module also explores how maintenance policies are selected according to equipment criticality, predictability of failures, and operational context, enabling learners to align maintenance decisions with business and production objectives. This module forms a key component in understanding how maintenance strategies are structured and applied within industrial environments.
What you will learn
- Distinguish between breakdown, time-based, condition-based, and improvement maintenance policies based on their characteristics.
- Analyse the application criteria for selecting appropriate maintenance policies in different operational contexts.
- Evaluate the advantages and limitations of each maintenance policy in relation to reliability and cost.
- Determine suitable maintenance approaches for equipment based on failure behaviour and operational impact.
- Apply decision-making criteria to justify maintenance policy selection in practical scenarios.
