Description

Short description:
Learn how to evaluate maintenance costs and design effective, context-driven maintenance strategies.

Long description:
Designed for maintenance supervisors, engineers, and industrial decision-makers, this module examines the economic and operational factors involved in selecting and managing maintenance policies within industrial environments. Learners will analyse the total cost implications of breakdown, time-based, condition-based, and improvement-focused maintenance strategies, considering their impact on production continuity, equipment reliability, operational risk, resource allocation, and business performance. Through conceptual analysis, industrial examples, and strategy design scenarios, participants will evaluate maintenance costs in relation to downtime, predictability of failures, equipment criticality, and operational context. The module also introduces the process of building an optimal maintenance strategy, including equipment tree analysis, policy selection criteria, risk evaluation, and the integration of organisational and technical resources. Learners will develop the ability to justify maintenance decisions based on technical, operational, and economic considerations, supporting the implementation of effective and context-appropriate maintenance strategies.

What you will learn

- Analyse the total cost implications of different maintenance policies in industrial contexts.
- Compare breakdown, time-based, and condition-based maintenance based on cost and production impact.
- Apply criteria such as failure impact, frequency, and predictability to select appropriate maintenance policies.
- Design a maintenance strategy by structuring equipment and assigning suitable maintenance approaches.
- Evaluate and adapt maintenance strategies to improve reliability and operational efficiency over time.
