Description
Structural engineers design buildings and other structures to resist a wide variety of forces. The different types of forces include the strucure itself; transient forces from the occupancy of the structure; and enviromental forces such as wind, earthquake, snow and rain. Those forces can produce the collapse of the structure. Therefore, it is important to identify them to understand structural solicitations. In this module the different types of failures that may occur in differentstructures will be listed. A number of forces and situations that may cause the steel to fail will be analysed.
This knowledge will hepl you to create better designs from the point of view of resistance and durability, and to understand the limitations of the structure.
What you will learn
- Identify the different modes of structure failure.
