Introduction to Plain Carbon Steels
Full Code

Module Type
E-learning
Description
Plain carbon steels rely principally on the carbon content to achieve their properties. They do not contain deliberate additions of the major alloying elements, except silicon and manganese.
By adjusting the carbon content and the correct thermic treatment you can achieve the desired mechanical properties of steel. In this module the simplest types of engineering steels named Plain carbon steels will be introduced. The different mechanical properties will be studied using different experimental results. The test certificate will be analysed to identify its different parts, and a description of plain steels will be presented. Then, the content of carbon will be evaluated. Finally, the applications will be described.
What you will learn
- Outline the effects of Carbon Content on steel properties;
- Interpret the Testing Certificate of steel products;
- Distinguish different applications of Plain Carbon Steels;
- Explain how Heat Treated Carbon steels affect Hardenability at different Carbon Contents.
