The Steel Structure Detailing course is a mixed educational proposal that combines online materials with live interaction with teachers and experts. Lasting 36 hours, this training is offered through a partnership between the Asociación Latinoamericana del Acero (Alacero) and steeluniversity, the training program of World Steel Association (worldsteel).

Real structures are made up of beams, girders, and columns, all joined by bolting or plate and angle welding. A steel sculpture is provided in this course by which steel connections can be visualised on a large scale. The 3D model of steel sculpture exhibits over 20 different connections commonly used in steel construction today, each connection has a short description associated with it.

The content of this course is based on the Steel Framing Engineering Manual which is largely based on the Standard for Cold Formed Steel Framing - Prescriptive Method for One and Two Family Dwellings (5), published in 2004 by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) of the United States of America. This Manual complies with the requirements of the AISI S100 standard - 2007 edition, for cold-formed steel structures. All design of structures covered in this Manual must be verified according to this standard and its referential standards.

The construction system called Steel Framing, which basically consists of a framework of cold-formed galvanized profiles, is one of the fastest growing and most important potential uses in current housing construction.

This Specification is based on successful past use, advances in the state of knowledge, and changes in design practices. The 2016 version of the American Institute of Steel Construction's Specification for Steel Construction provides an integrated treatment for Allowable Stress Design (ASD) and for Load and Resistance Design Factors (LRDF), and replaces previous specifications. As indicated in Chapter B of this specification, the design can be carried out in accordance with ASD or LRFD provisions.
